The canton was formed on 4 July 1944.
The municipal
website shows the flag (or rather "a flag of unspecified
status") as horizontally divided white-green with the coat
of arms in the middle and a golden writing in the white stripe
(probably "ILUSTRE MUNICIPALIDAD DEL CANTON CHUNCHI").
