Description

The DGII flag can be seen in several photographs online, particularly here and here. The flag consists of the DGII logo centered on a white field. The logo is composed of a green square, rounded on the upper fly and lower hoist corners, with two white, lower case, script "i"s, representing the "Impuestos Internos." To the fly of the logo is the agency's name in black capital letters arranged in three rows: DIRECCION GENERAL / DE IMPUESTOS / INTERNOS.

About the Organization

The Dirección General de Impuestos Internos (DGII, General Directorate of Internal Revenue) is the subordinate agency of the Ministry of Finance that is responsible for the management and collection of the main domestic taxes in the Dominican Republic. The organization was formed in 1997 with Law No. 166-97, which merged the former General Directorate of Internal Revenue with the former General Directorate of Income Taxes. The DGII, however, traces its history to the creation of the Department of Internal Revenue in 1935, under the Ministry of Treasury and Public Credit. The implementation of the country's first income tax in 1949 also necessitated the creation of the General Directorate of Income Tax to manage that revenue. Eventually, the two Directorates were merged in 1997 into the current General Directorate of Internal Revenue.
