The institute was established in 1928 and dissolved in 1988. It had been a department of the Danish General Staff and was Denmark´s map maker.
The pennant was red with the logo in gold.
The logo displayed a globe with latitudes and longitudes in a hexagram, surrounded by a wreath of oak with leaves and acorns and surmounted by a royal crown.
