Flag adopted 11 April 1921, modified 1926, abolished 22 April 1933, readopted 1950
A slightly variant standard of the arms - black eagle on gold field - with a red border. This was abolished in 1933, but again adopted by the Federal Republic in 1950 and is still in effect.

The German Presidential standard was first established by the flag ordinance of 11 April 1921. According to Dreyhaupt 2000 [drh00], p. 13, this was identical to the present standard.

The regulation of 11 April 1921, finally in force 1 January 1922, introduced a new presidential standard instead of the presidential flag. This was a square flag of golden colour, bordered red, with a black eagle in the center. The eagle was different from other eagles used in flags of this time; it showed five feathers on each side. This flag was used from 1921 until 1926, and perhaps beyond. It was reintroduced as presidential standard of the Federal Republic of Germany in 1950. Sources:
