Seeshaupt Coat of Arms

Renaissance shield Azure a fish haurient Argent in bend.
Meaning:
The translation of the name of the municipality is "head of the lake", meaning the Starnberger See, as the municipality is located on its southernmost point. The fish is referring to the location on the shores of that lake and also symbolising the economic importance of fishery. Johannes Tutzinger had been provost of the Augustine Bernried Monastery between 1520 and 1535. His personal arms also displayed a fish, which can be seen as a Gothic sculpture from 1522 on the so called "column of the naval court of law" (German: Seegerichtssäule) on the wharf of the steamboats in Seeshaupt. It is unknown, whether the column marked the former border over the lake or had been a monument of a court. The tinctures are those of Bayern.
