Burggen Coat of Arms

Shield parted per fess embattled of Argent and Azure, a pale in counterchanged tinctures, in base charged with a spruce twig proper.
Meaning:
The fess embattled is canting for the name and is symbolising the many estates of local noblemen. Among those had been the Lords of Burggen (or Buringeu), since the 12th century first commissionaires of the Welfen kin and later of the Staufen kin. Afterwards until the 14th century the Schmiechen kin of Helmishofen and the Waal kin played an important role. The pale is taken from the arms of the latter, the partition of silver and blue from the former. In 1399 the Bishopric of Augsburg acquired the region including the local cognisance. The bishopric lost its possessions in 1803 by secularisation. The tinctures white and blue are alluding to the fact that the Dukes and Electors of Bayern had been in charge of the high level cognisance, already under the rule of the bishopric. The twig is symbolising the local Schneeheide forest.
