It is a red-white-red vertical triband with ratio of stripes 1:2:1. The coat of arms is shifted to the top in the white stripe.

Shield parted per pale of Argent and Gules, an inescutcheon parted per pale, at dexter paly of six of Argent and Sable, at sinister Argent a lion rampant Sable tongued Gules.
Meaning:
The inescutcheon displayed the family arms of the Burgraves of Kirchberg, being local rulers of Farnroda, Eichrodt, Wutha, Rehhof, Burbach and Seebach from the 15th century until the 18th century. They also owned estates and had special privileges in Schönau and Mosbach. The colours of the main shield and of the banner are those of Thüringen.

Banner and arms were approved acc. to §10(1) of Kommunalverfassung der DDR by Minister of Interior of Thüringen on 17 May 1990.
