Ribnitz-Damgarten Coat of Arms

The shield is divided per pale. The dexter side shows a bust of a man, crowned by a golden coronet, dressed in red and coated blue with fair hair in a silver (= white) field. The sinister side shows a golden (= yellow), rampant griffin tongued red.
Meaning:
In 1950 the towns of Ribnitz (Mecklenburg) and Damgarten (Vorpommern) had been forced to merge by the communist government, which broke the resistance of the locals and the local authorities in order to extinct old historical roots. As there had been no historical arms of the city, a new coat of arms was created by Frank Rose, a citizen of Ribnitz-Damgarten. According to source the bust shows Jaromir II,Pprince of Rügen and founder of Damgarten. The giffin is symbolising the Lordship of Rostock, a historical subdivision of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, to which Ribnitz belonged.

The flag was approved on 5 January 1999 and the coat of arms on 27 January 1993 by Minister of Interior of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and published in the Municipal Roll of Arms Mecklenburg-Vorpommern as no.64
