Meaning:
Since the 16th centuty a settlement of miners around a hammermill behind the woods of Schöneck developed. The settlement was named Klingenthal in 1604. Its owner had been N. Klinger. The settlement gained the rights of a market town in 1834. Mining of copper, tin and ore had been the main business lines. In 1659 Protestant refugees from Böhmen (Bohemia) introduced the production of violins. Later the production of mouth organs and accordions came into focus and in 1907 there had been more than 60 factories, which produced musical instruments. These factories are symbolised by the lyra. In 1919 Klingenthal gained city rights.
