Renaissance shield Sable a lion rampant Or.
Meaning:
A castle probably existed before 1200, which had been inhabited by the Lords of Auerbach, who had been commissionaires, first mentioned in 1282, of the Reeves of Plauen. The reeves founded a settlement around 1300, which was mentioned as a city in 1402. In 1569 the city and the whole region were acquired by the Electors of Sachsen. The arms had been those of the reeves, the former local rulers, since the 14th century.
