Meaning:
The municipality adopted the family arms of the Tanneck kin, well known from seals and epitaphs. The kin acquired the village in 1458 by the marriage of Anna of Hürnheim and Ulrich Ruck of Tanneck. The latter built the local castle and the parish church, dedicated to St. Michael, between 1475 and 1479. The epitaphs of the family are in the church. His grandson sold the village to Hans Walther of Hürnheim in 1540.
