It is a white-red vertical bicolour with coat of arms shifted towards the top. On banner there is either a Spanish shield (see left image above) or a Renaissance shield (see right image above).

Shield enhanced parted per fess, above Gules on a triplemount issuant Vert a castle Or with open port and two embattled towers and superimposing a linden Vert, beneath Vert a confluence Azure, over all the eagle or vexillum Or of the 7th Roman Legion, superimposing a fasces Or bladed Azure in bend and a staff Or with an oath hand at its top in bend sinister, the eagle is flanked by an initial "L" at dexter and a Roman number "VII" at sinister, both Or.
Meaning:
The upper half displays the canting arms of the Augustine Monastery of Baumburg, located on a mountain near Altenmarkt. The village belonged to the monastery, which was founded in the 11th century, since the 14th century until 1803, when the monastery was secularised. Altenmarkt was mentioned as a market in the 15th century but downgraded to a village in 1818 due to the rise of nearby Trostberg. The confluence is a representation of that one of the rivers Traun and Alz. The other elements are referring to the Romans, who played an important role in the local history. The fasces is referring to Roman commissionaires and the eagle is alluding to the fact that the 7th legion was based between the rivers. The hand of oath is probably referring to the Lords of Baumburg, who had the local cognisance in the High Medieval. A crest was omitted as unnecessary frippery. Attempts to regain the status of a market town failed during the 19th century.

The banners are probably in use without approval. The arms were granted on 17 July 1874 by King Ludwig II of Bayern.
