Description of banner:
It is a blue - white - blue vertical triband with ratio 1:4:1. The coat of arms is shifted to the top.

Description of coat of arms:
The shield is divided per fess. Above is a red, statant lion armed, crowned and tongued blue in a silver(=white) field. Below in a blue field is a warrior dressed in silver(=white) armour and moving a silver(=white) axe with a golden(=yellow) shaft.
Meaning:
According to Ralf Hartemink's webpage the warrior is taken from a local seal of 1557. The lion is representing the counts and dukes of Berg, the former rulers.

The banner was approved by Regierungspräsident Köln on 5 December 1973, the coat of arms on 4 May 1972.
