It is a red - white - red vertical triband with ratio 1:3:1 and a red bannerhead. The coat of arms is in the centre of the bannerhead.

Description of coat of arms:
In a silver(=white) shield are three red clover leaves ordered two above one.
Meaning:
According to source those are the arms of died out kin of von Mettingen, who had been in service of the counts of Tecklenburg. The arms appeared first on a seal of 1299. The colours are those of the counts of Tecklenburg.

The banner was generated probably about 1950 and is mentioned in §2 of Hauptsatzung of the municipality of Mettingen, dated 9 November 1994. The coat of arms was approved by Oberpräsident of Prussian province of Westphalia on 26 October 1938.
