Welver Municipal Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
The shield is divided per pale into red and gold (= yellow). The dexter side displays a golden (= yellow) rampant male dog tongued black. The sinister side displays two black swords pointing downwards and crossed per saltire. Above is a n impending eagle of the same colour.
Meaning:
The dog is canting and displaying the arms of the Lords of Rüdenberg. "Rüde" is the German term of a male dog. Swords and eagle had been the arms of the administrators (Vögte) of Soest. The municipal arms had been the arms of the former subcounty (Amt) of Borgeln-Schwefe until 1969, when the subcounty was dissolved. The stripes on the hoist are representing the settlement cores of the municipality. Those are: Balksen, Berwicke, Blumroth, Borgeln, Dinker, Dorfwelver, Ehningsen. Eilmsen, Einecke, Eineckerholsen, Flerke, Illigen, Kiotingen, Merklingsen, Nateln, Recklingsen, Schneidingen, Schwefe, Stocklarn, Vellinghausen and Welver proper.

The flag was adopted on 7 July 2011. The coat of arms was approved on 31 March 1970 by Regierungspräsident Arnsberg.
