The blue shield is quartered. The 1st and 4th quarter display a silver (= white), rampant, double-queued lion, crowned golden (= yellow) and tongued red in a blue field scattered with silver (= white) crosslets fitchy. The 2nd and 3rd quarter display a golden (= yellow), rampant, double-queued lion, crowned and tongued red in a blue field scattered with golden (= yellow) billets.
Meaning:
Saarbücken County existed from 1816-1974 and used no arms. In 1974 a municipal community (Stadtverband) was formed including the city of Saarbrücken. In 2007 it was renamed to Regionalverband Saarbrücken.
The arms are derived from the arms of the Counts of Nassau-Saarbrücken with the lions in the opposite quarters. The largest part of the district was originally part of the County of Nassau-Saarbrücken. The silver lion is the old lion of the Counts of Saarbrücken, the golden lion and the flag colours belong to the Counts of Nassau.

The flag colours were approved on 17 March 1975. The coat of arms was granted in 1909.
