Elchesheim-Illingen Coat of Arms

Shield Azure, a cross faceted Argent, chief wavy Or charged with two fish Gules ordered per fess.
Meaning:
Elchesheim and Illingen merged on 1 July 1971. The cross is alluding to the fact that both former municipalties belonged to the Bishopric of Speyer. In 1102 Emperor Heinrich IV granted some estates in Elchesheim, which was then mentioned for the first time, to the bishop. Since the end of the 13th century Elchesheim belonged to the Margraviate of Baden. The tinctures of the chief are those of the Badenian arms. Illingen, until 1602 located on the western bank of the Rhine, belonged to the Bishopric of Speyer until 1802. The wavy line of partition is symbolising the location of the municipality on the bank of the Rhine. The fish are representing both former municipalties and the importance of fishing in the past.
