Hettenshausen Coat of Arms

Shield parted per pale, at dexter Argent a cross staff pommelly issuant Azure, at sinister Azure a crozier issuant Argent, intertwined with a snake Or, base wavy in counterchanged tinctures.
Meaning:
The base wavy is symbolising the location on the banks of the Ilm River. The cross staff is an attribute of St. John the Baptist, patron saint of the church of Hettenshausen, which had been incorporated in 1427 into the Ilmmünster Convent. The crozier with snake is an attribute of St. Arsatius. His relics had been brought from Rome to Ilmmünster in the 8th century. The attribute is symbolising the close relationships between Hettenshausen and Ilmmünster. Ilmmünster Abbey and the local district (Bavarian: Hofmark) had been transferred under the control of the Convent of the Cathedral of Our Lady in München in 1495 by Duke Albrecht of Bayern. The tinctures blue and silver are stressing the influence of the Wittelsbach kin since the 12th century.
