Description of current flag:
The flag's ratio is 3:5. It is a vertical red - yellow bicolour. The coat of arms is in the centre of the flag.

Description of coat of arms:
The shield is divided per pale. The dexter half shows a half black bull's head, crowned golden (= yellow) in a golden (= yellow) field. The sinister half shows in a red field a half golden(=yellow) 6-point star built by rhombs. The heigth is approx 7/15 of toal height, the width approx 1/4 of total width.

Meaning:
The bull's head is symbolizing Mecklenburg, The arms had been already used on the oldest seal of the city in the early 13th century. The bull's head is taken from the arms of Pribislaus II of Parchim, the founder of the city around 1250, and is also symbolizing Mecklenburg and the star (German:Stern) is canting.
