Meaning:
The municipality adopted the arms of the Schweithart family from Kaufbeuren.Ulrich of Schweithart gained the Kipfenberg estates in 1451 as a fiefdom. He chose Westerried Castle, located in Kraftisried, as its seat. The tinctures of the family arms were unknown and those of the municipal arms were chosen by the local council, alluding to Ottobeuren Abbey and to the Bishopric of Augsburg as well. The bishopric ruled the biggest part of the current municipality.
