Bosau Municipal Coat of Arms

Shield parted per pale; at dexter Azure a stylised eagle's head Argent, issuant from line of partition and facing the chief; at sinister Gules a lion rampant Or.
Meaning:
Bosau has some of the oddest circumstances in Schleswig-Holstein. The municipality belongs to Ostholstein County, is however administrated by Großer Plöner See Subcounty in the neigzhbouring Plön County. The municipality keeps in this way the privileged status of a subcounty-free municipality (amtsfreie Gemeinde). The administration building of Bosau is just in a backstreet behind the Plön County administration in Plön City.
Also the coat of arms is one of the oddest ever seen. The "eagle's head" is in fact a map displaying a peninsula on the shores of the Großer Plöner See (Great Plön Lake). Alt-Bosau is located on that peninsula. Heinrich the Lion, Duke of Saxony and Bavaria, donated the peninsula to the Bishopric of Oldenburg. In 1152 Saint Vicelinus, bishop since 1149, built a church on the peninsula at the place, marked as the "eagle's eye ". In remembrance of the German colonisation of Ostholstein in the 12th century, the charges had been chosen very conscoiously. The lion is representing the duke and the "eagle " is symbolising the Imperial power of the Holy Roman Empire. Reißmann displays the sinister half also as blue. It is not known, when the colour was changed to red.

The flag has never been approved officially. The arms were approved on 27 May 1947 by British Military Government.
