Shield Or an eagle issuant Sable, chief Sable parted by a bend chequered of Gules and Argent
Meaning:
The eagle is reminding on the fact that Berngau had been the centre of an imperial estate since the 12th century. It was owned by the Wittelsbach kin since 1280 and had the status of an imperial district (Bavarian: kaiserliche Hofmark) until the 17th century. King Ludwig the Bavarian granted the right of patronage of the local parish church in 1315 to the Cistercian Waldsassen Nunnery, represented in the arms by the so called Cistercian bend in chief.
