Weichering Coat of Arms

Shield Argent parted by an abased fess embowed of Gules over Or over Azure; in chief a griffin rampant issuant Sable, armed and tongued Gules, holding an inescutcheon Azure charged with an axe blade Argent, in base an embowed fish Azure.
Meaning:
The griffin is taken from the arms of the Tanndorfer kin, called Mufflinger, who owned the local district (Bavarian: Hofmark) between 1453 and 1510. The inescutcheon displays the personal arms of Max of Pettenkofers, who was born in 1818 in Lichtenheim in the village of Lichtenau. He is the originator of scientific hygienics. The rainbow, i.e. the embowed fess, is taken from the arms of the Barons of Hacke, who had been hereditary chief foresters of the Principality of Pfalz-Neuburg. They owned large estates in the village between 1680 and 1770, furthermore the ruined castle of Weichering and a hunting lodge, established in 1678 in Obermühle. The fish is alluding to the fishery rights of the village on the rivers Donau and Ach, proven since 1214. The tinctures blue and white are symbolising that the village belonged to the Duchy of Bayern and since 1505 to the Principality of Pfalz-Neuburg, both dominions of the Wittelsbach kin.
