Meaning:
Wesenberg was mentioned first in 1257. Wesenberg gained city rights from Count Nikolaus I of Werle about 1250. The city belonged to Brandenburg from 1276 - 1300 and finally became a possession of Mecklenburg in 1317. During the following centuries the city declined by plagues, famines, wars, fires etc. The arms are based upon a seal proven since 1354. The green hill is canting (Wese = Wiese = (Engl.) meadow on a mountain). The towers are symbolising the city rights and the eagles are allduding to the rule of the Margraves of Brandenburg in the 13th century.
