Shield Or a lion rampant Sable, armed and tongued Gules.
Meaning:
The village of Mittweida probably existed shortly after 1200. It belonged to the County of Rochlitz and was mentioned as a city since 1268. The local council gained the high level cognisance in 1423, furthermore the manorial lordship of surrounding villages and parts of villages. The city was walled in the 15th century. Main business line had been textiles industry, first cloth and later linen. The arms are based on local seals, which displayed the lion of the Margraves of Meißen, the local rulers, since 1423.
