It was a white gonfanon cotised blue with centred coat of arms topped by a mural crown and black circumscription "Stadt" (above embowed) and "Geringswalde (1st line) 1889(2nd line smaller)" (below).

Shield Argent, on green base a boar salient Sable armed Argent in front of a fir Vert trunked Sable.
Meaning:
A village was established after 1150. In 1158 the Lords of Schönburg built a castle and around 1200 they founded Geringswalde as a city. Castle and city were destroyed in 1213 by warfare. In 1233 the lords established a Benedictine nunnery at the same place. In 1261 a new city was founded on another place in the middle of the village of Alt-Geringswalde. The nunnery was secularised in 1542 and its possessions with the city were sold to the Electorate of Sachsen in 1590. The arms are considered to be canting with the fir representing a wood (German:Wald).

The banner approved in 1996. The arms were probably granted around 1590 by the Elector of Sachsen.
