The banner was approved on 27 April 1951 by Bavarian ministry of interior. The coat of arms was approved on 17 May 1950 by Bavarian ministry of interior.

Remarkable is the fact, that in contrast to most other Bavarian municipalities, Grünwald is using a plain striped flag, and not one with the arms superimposed.
