Description of flag:
The flag's ratio is 3:5. It is a blue over white horizontal bicolour with the coat of arms in the centre of the flag.
Description of local coat of arms:
In a silver(=white) field is a red castle, having blue roofs topped by golden(=yellow) balls. In the open gate is a golden(=yellow) horn.
Meaning:
The city of Horn had different arms until 1973, when the city merged with Bad Meinberg. According to Veddeler 2003, p.152 there was a blue horn tipped golden(=yellow) in a silver(=white) field. According to Hupp "Deutsche Ortswappen" the arms above were in use, based on the main seal of the city in the middle ages. Hupp chose its colours arbitrarily. The book of arms of Paderborn from 18th century claims different colours, a golden(=yellow) castle in a blue field.

Borough of Holzhausen-Externsteine

[H-BM Holzhausen flag] 3:5 image by Klaus-Michael Schneider, 28 Jul 2010

There had been a few municipalities named Holzhausen in the area. Holzhausen literally means settlement in the woods. To distinguish from others, the former muncipality was renamed Holzhausen-Externsteine.
Description of flag:
The flag's ratio is 3:5. It is a green over white over green horizontal triband with ratio 1:3:1. The coat of arms is in the middle of the yellow stripe. In the upper hoist corner is a red heraldic rose babrbed and seeded yellow.
Description of local coat of arms:
The shield is divided per fess. Above in a golden(=yellow) field is a green oak tree having five silver(=white) acorns. Below in a red field is a group of rocks in natural colour (black, white and grey).
Meaning:
The rose is symbolizing the barons of Lippe, the former rulers. The oak probably is canting. The meaning of the number of acorns I don’t know. The group of rocks below is an image of Externsteine. There are in the end known very little facts about those rocks. Some say, it was a place of pagan worshipping. Others say, it would be a kind of early observatory, to discriminate the equinoxes. At least they are a touristic attraction. A brief outline can be found at this website:
