Kaufering Coat of Arms

On a triplemount issuant Vert a lion rampant Gules, armed and tongued Or.
Meaning:
The triplemount is symbolising the location of the town on the high banks of the Lech River and the Burgberg, a local mountain. The lion is considered to be the apocryphal heraldic animal of the Welfen kin and is reminding on the close relationships between kin and village in the 12th century. As Dukes of Bayern between 1070 and 1180 the kin owned rich estates in the Lechrain region (the right bank of the river between Augsburg and Lechbruck). Kaufering had been one of their castles and was manned by commissionaires of the family. The lion is known from a local seal of Duke Welf VI from 1152. The tinctures are those of the Bishopric of Augsburg and probably also of the Welfen kin. In September 2008 on occasion of the 975-years-anniversary the municipality gained the rights of a market town.
