Ilsenburg is a small town in the Harz mountains. The slightly unusual flag was introduced in 1992, it is described as almost square with vertical stripes (white-dark green-white) and the arms in the centre.

Shield Argent with base Vert, a red gate, flanked by two trees Vert (either alder or sorbus), the gable charged with an inescutcheon Or, charged with a stag passant Sable.
Meaning:
The municipality used a seal from 1609 until 1808. It displayed the city gate between the trees and was considered to be canting (Elisinaburg = Ilsenburg = castle between the Else-trees (Latin: Sorbus torminalis)). After the rule of the King of Westphalia had ended, the municipality used another seal until 1900, just displaying the stag of the Counts of Stolberg. The draft of the current arms was made bei Otto Korn.
