Shield Vert, a crozier Or and an iron fist Argent in saltire, over all a bar chequered of 16 (2 x 8) of Gules and Argent.
Meaning:
The Cistercian bar and the crozier are alluding is alluding to the local monastery, run by the Cistercian Order. The bar had replaced a bend sinister in the former arms. The iron fist, more precise part of a knight's armour, is alluding to Götz von Berlichingen, protagonist of a drama written by J.W. von Goethe. It was added in 1978. Berlichingen was buried in Schöntal.

The former arms were approved in 1972, the current arms together with the banner on 19 September 1978 by Hohenlohe County.
