Shield Azure a gate tower Argent with roof Gules, supported embattlements and rising embattled walls on both flanches.
Meaning:
Bernstadt was first mentioned as a city in 1280. First local rulers had been the Lords of Schönburg, followed by the Lords of Kamenz and later by the Cistercian Marienstern Monastery. Name giver of the city had been Bernhard of Kamenz. All kinds of textiles industries had been the main business lines. The arms are based on a local seal from the 16th century and are symbolising the status of a city.
