Shield Argent, under a fess Azure a griffin-lion issuant Gules.
Meaning:
The griffin-lion, a lion with the head of a griffin, is a differentiation of the oldest apocryphal arms of the Welfen kin, the former Dukes of Sachsen and Bayern, as Saulgrub had been part of the Ammergau shire, which belonged to that kin during the High Medieval. Silver and blue are the tinctures of the Wittelsbach kin, who inheritated the possessions of the Welfen in 1268 by the so called Konradine Heritage. The village had been donated to the Ettal Abbey in 1330 by German King Ludwig the Bavarian and was part of a court district of the abbey until 1803.

The arms were approved on 13 March 1968 by Minister of Interior of Bayern. The banner has never been approved officially.
