Shield Azure an embattled wall Or masoned Sable with open gate, topped by three embattled towers of the same with roofs Gules topped by balls Or.
Meaning:
Zschopau was mentioned in 1292 as a possession of the Benedictine Hersfeld Monastery, to which it probably belonged since the 10th century as part of the Döbeln district. After the middle of the 12th century it belonged to the Pleißenland, a territory under direct imperial rule. In 1292 it was first mentioned as a city. After 1300 it was a possession of the Lords of Waldenburg as imperial commissionaires, since 1349 a fiefdom of the Margraves of Meißen, finally since 1455 a part of the Electorate of Sachsen. In 1493 it became a Free Mining City, which caused however no further economic development. The last pits of silver mining and lead mining were closed in 1884. Industrialisation started here in 1818 and caused the development of textiles industries. The arms are basically in use since 1600. Tower and wall are stressing the character of a city.
