Blue shield, a silver bishop, wearing a mitre, riding a horse passant of the same, protected by a red shield, charged with a silver 6-spokes wheel, and holding a black lance with a red square banner, displaying the same wheel, in the upper sinister corner a piece of a silver, embattled wall masoned black, crowned by a tower of the same.
Meaning:
Heiligenstadt, or with the full name Heilbad Heiligenstadt, was a possession of the Archbishops of Mainz and was first mentioned in 973. It gained city rights by archbishop Siegfried II of Mainz in 1227. The seal shows Siegfried II riding on a horse in front of the new city. The shield and the banner display the wheel of Mainz. The seal dates from the early 13th century and is still sometimes used.
