Shield Or, an eagle Sable armed Gules.
Meaning:
Lübben is the seat of Dahme-Spreewald County. A local castle was first mentioned around 1150. It was manned by burgers in service of the Margraves of Meißen until 1241. Since the 2nd half of the 15th century Lübben was seat of the Reeves of Lower Lusatia (Niederlausitz). Together with Lower Lusatia the city became a dominion of the Electorate of Saxony in 1635 and of Prussia in 1815. The oldest city seal probably existed since the 13th century. An eagle in the arms is first mentioned in a local dade from 1438. The pattern before 1991 was taken from a Renaissance cartouche from 1574. The eagle probably is that one of Brandenburg but depicted in improper tinctures.
