Deiningen Coat of Arms

Shield parted per pale of Gules and Or, two chevrons in counterchanged colours forming a saltire, chief Azure a bridge Argent with seven arches.
Meaning:
The bridge in chief is a representation of the local bridge crossing the Eger River, which is a listed monument. It existed since the times of the Romans and the current version was finished in the 18th century. The two chevrons are the differentiated arms of the Princes of Oettingen. The counterchanged tinctures are symbolising the condominium of the branches of Oettingen-Oettingen and Oettingen-Wallerstein. The Counts of Oettingen owned large estates since the 12th century, first as vassals of the Fulda Abbey. Due to two existing branches of the kin the village was divided into two parts. The part of Oettingen-Wallerstein remainded Catholic, the part of Oettingen-Oettingen became Protestant. Both parts were limited by the local main street. The partition was strict until the late 18th century. Catholics and Protestants used the same (Catholic) church until the end of WW2, when the Protestants gained their own church.
