Meaning:
Bachhagel was first mentioned in 1269/1271 as Hagel, which means "hill" or "stone heap". The hook is taken from the arms of the Lords of Hagel, who had been imperial commissiopnaires since 1145. It is also representing the fomer municipality of Burghagel. The castle is reminding on Hagel Castle, which had been destroyed either in 1447 or in 1462. The unicorn is representing the former municipality of Oberbechingen and had been the heraldic animal of the Roth of Schreckenstein family, a kin of patricians from Ulm. The family owned the local district (Bavarian: Hofmark) from 1581 until 1622. Hans Caspar Roth of Schreckenstein finished the local castle in 1584. The fess wavy is a canting element, referring to a creek (German: Bach).
