Itzgrund Coat of Arms

Shield Or a basilisk Gules holding an inescutcheon at dexter, quartered of Argent and Gules, by his left forepaw, chief quartered dancetty of Gules and Argent.
Meaning:
Itzgrund was established in 1978 by a merger of the former municipalities of Lahm, Kaltenbrunn, Gleußen, Schottenstein, Welsberg and Herreth. The name Itzgrund (i.e. Itz valley) is alluding to the little Itz River, two of the former municipalities already had an epithet "in the Itzgrund". The basilisk is taken from the arms of the Banz Abbey, an important local ruler and manorial lord in the area. This basilisk is a beast with a crowned griffin's head, the torso of a dragon and the tail of a fish. The rest is representing the numerous noblemen, who lived in the valley. They are represented by two families in the arms. The chief displays the arms of the Lords of Lichtenstein, the quartered shield those of the Schott of Schottenstein family.
