The arms were granted on March 8, 1976.The arms are a combination of elements from the arms of the old counties. The bars are taken from the Gunzenhausen arms, the base from Weissenburg county [arms of the Counts of Pappenheim, who owned parts of the territory] and the eagle from Weissenburg city.
