Shield Argent parted of Argent, Or and Argent by two embattled bars Sable, in base a heraldic rose Gules seeded Or and barbed Vert.
Meaning:
The village was seat of the Lords of Aufseß, who were first mentioned in 1079. The embattled bars are representing the local castles of Oberaufseß and Unteraufseß. The rose is taken from the family arms of the Aufseß kin. The tinctures silver and black are those of the Margraviate of Brandenburg, the local rulers. The tinctures gold and black are symbolising relationships to the Bishopric of Bamberg.
