Description of coat of arms:
In a green shield is a silver (=white) sheep.
Meaning:
According to source the image is traditional and known from seals since 1659. The arms are canting (niederdeutsch: schoap = schöp = Schaf).

Probably there was no approval. But in §2(3) of Hauptsatzung of the municipality of Schöppingen, version 11 October 1999, erroneously a flag is mentioned.
