Shield parted per fess, above lozengy of Argent and Azure, beneath Gules two fish Argent ordered per pale.
Meaning:
The upper half stresses that the municipality belonged traditionally to Bayern. Gmain (literally: common) was historically subdivided into two municipalities, separated by the Weißbach, a creek. The right bank with Großgmain belonged historically to the Archbishopric of Salzburg and at the beginning of the 19th century to Austria. In 1926 the name was changed to Bayerisch Gmain. The fish are taken from the arms of the Augustine Provostry of St. Zeno in Bad Reichenhall. The provosts had been important manorial lords in the village.
