Civic Arms website: The arms of the city date from the oldest (still
existing) seal from 1342. The city rights were granted in the early 13th
century. Bernburg belonged to the Dukes of Anhalt-Bernburg,
who built a large castle in the city. The arms show a city wall with in
the gate the arms of the Dukes of Anhalt
and their crest on the wall.

These are the flags of the city of Bernburg according to its Statutes.
Bernburg is the (still) administration seat of Bernburg county, state
Saxony-Anhalt.
