The Schill Free Troop (Freischar Schill) was founded by Werner Lass, a journalist who had previously participated in founding of the Schill Youth, from which he broke away in 1927. The new youth organization, although also nationalist and modelled after the League Youth (Bündische Jugend) movement, was independent from Nazi party, the attitude towards it being more similar to the League Youth's generally hostile one; it has also been considered the part of the League Youth more frequently than was the case with the Schill Youth. Schill Free Troop was banned in 1933, some of its members eventually joining the Nazis, while the others participated in the anti-Nazi resistance.
The emblem of the Schill Free Troop were large white letters "WL" (its founder's initials), placed one over the other on black field. The flag employed the same design, thus following the pattern of League Youth flags, which usually had white charges on black field.
