The local museum of Vysoké nad Jizerou has a photocopy of the earliest
document about the town, dating from 1354. The town was founded by Havlas
Pavlata, who is depicted on the city arms together with a bear, which he
had tamed and took with him to Prague, to king Jiri. The king rewarded
him lavously.
