The municipality of Akdoğan (Greek, Λύση; 13,026 inhabitants in 2011) is located in the Mesaoria plain.
By the 2016-2018 administrative reform, the municipality of Akdoğan should be incorporated in 2018 into the municipality of Güney Mesarya (Southern Mesaoria).
The municipality of Lysi was established in 1962. Following the proclamation of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and the exile of the Greek population, the new municipality of Akdoğan was formed in 1975, while the administration of the municipality of Akanthou in exile (website) was relocated to Larnaca.
