The coat of arms displays a key, the method to open up progress and
development. The sea and barge represents fishing, the maritime transportation
of agricultural products to Puntarenas, and importation of cattle. The cattle's
head represents livestock activity in the area. The ears of rice represent rice
farming in the canton. Finally, the crown represents the dignity of being a
city.
