"LA BANDERA - Dimensiones: 2 metros de largo por 1,20 metros
de ancho. Fondo celeste que significa el cielo que cubre los
campos del canton. Triangulo de color verde sobre el fondo
celeste de 1,20 m de base y 1,27 m de lado. Significa lo
eminentemente agricola del canton. Circulo amarillo en el centro
de la bandera. Significa el sol que dora los campos y que emerge
del campo verde. Es de 45 cm de radio. Fue disen~ada por la
sen~ora Hilda Gonzalez de Murillo, mediante un concurso que
promovio la Municipalidad en an~o 1978. El 28 de octubre del
mismo a~o, la autora recibio la comunicacion de haber ganado el
concurso. En 1980 fue confeccionada la primera bandera por las
religiosas de San Miguel Arcangel,en San Juan de Santa Bárbara.
El 16 de mayo de 1981 fue izada por primera vez, en la
inauguracion del Palacio Municipal. Actualmente luce en el Salon
de Sesiones de la Municipalidad."

Translation: "THE FLAG - Size: 2 meters in width and 1.20
meter in height. Light blue field with means the sky above the
fields of the canton. Green triangle over the light blue field,
with a basis of 1.20m and a height of 1.27 m. Means the
agricultural excellence of the canton. Yellow circle in the
center of the flag. Means the sun which goldens the fields and
rises from the green field. Radius 45 cm. Was designed by Mrs.
Hilda Gonzalez de Murillo, following a contest organized by the
municipality in 1978. On 28 October 1978, the designer was told
she had won the contest. In 1980, the first flag was made by the
nuns of San Miguel Arcangel, in San Juan de Santa Barbara. On 16
May 1981, the flag was hoisted for the first time for the
inauguration of the Municipal Palace. Currently exhibited in the
Session Hall of the Municipality."
