held at Universidad Externado, one of the candidates, Luis Emilio Pérez
Gutiérrez, displayed a Colombian tricolor
with the cannabis plant on top, in the middle of the yellow stripe. His proposal
is to declare this plant as the official leaf of the country and include it on
the official flag.
Similar flags have appeared in recent years in
different designs, mainly during demonstrations by advocates and users of this
drug, but this is the first time that such a flag is displayed during a
presidential debate, let alone by a former public official.
